How to Tour Sex and the City Locations

Posted by missemmamm on May 28, 2010

ew years ago my sister and I decided to visit New York. It was my second visit. The first time I didn’t have anything at all planned and it was cool but not what it could have been. This time we had made a list of things we wanted to do. One of those things was the was the On Location Tours: Sex and the City Tour. Unfortunately the tours for that day were sold out. It must be a very popular tour because this was prior to the announcement that they were making the first film. So we decided to just visit some of the places ourselves. The first thing we found out was that many of the locations are actually in Greenwich Village, not New York City. Greenwich Village is very charming. We had to just wing it. Now there are easier ways to do this.

You may want to set up your visit yourself even if the tour is available to save $40+ or so you can do a shorter or longer tour or visit some of the locations that are no longer included in the On Location tour. There is also the Watson Adventures Sex and the City Scavenger Hunt for $24.50. I think this is a type of walking tour.

If you have an iPhone you can go here and for only .99 you can buy an app that includes 40 Sex and the City locations. To get directions you can use Hop Stop which will let you plan your route by walking, subway, bus or a combo.

Let’s start with my favorite location, Carrie’s stoop. Due to the disruptions caused by the large number of people visiting the stoop during the tour the stoop was nixed from the On Location Tour in 2008. In that article they listed that there is a sign in front to stop loitering. I don’t know if this is still in effect or not. If it were going for the first time I’d still try to get a picture. FYI-It’s been said that Sarah Jessica Parker herself lives nearby on Charles St.

Magnolia Bakery was recently dropped from the On Location Tour. When we were there we didn’t attempt to go in because there was a huge line. From what I’ve read on the net that’s often the case.

During my first visit to NYC in 2001 I watched some street performers in front of this place. In 2008 it appeared as the setting of Carrie’s wedding. For tons of pics and info on how many films were shot there I recommend reading The New York Public Library from “Sex and the City: The Movie” by Lindsay.

St. Patrick’s Day Thoughts

St Pattys Day 09

2009

Leprechaun Joke
This used to be my all time favorite joke. I read it in Maxim years ago. P.S. I didn’t write this joke. If you aren’t of average height (some people prefer 1 term while other prefer another), I’m not trying to demean you.

A guy goes to the restroom in a bar. While at the urinal he looks next to him and sees a midget. He says “Wow, you have a big dick. I wish I had a dick that big.” “Well I’m a leprechaun. I can grant you one wish.” “Really? How?” “If you let me fuck you I’ll grant you that wish.” So while their having sex the guy yells out “I can’t believe I’m getting fucked by a leprechaun!” The midget says “I can’t believe you think I’m a leprechaun.”

Backstory

I have a weird history with St. Patrick’s Day. For the most part it isn’t good. Skip below to read the about the year I had fun. In 2006 my sister Donna called and invited me to visit her in Bmore (before I lived there I often visited) because she knew that I had never partied for St. Patty’s Day before. We went out to the now defunct Baja Beach Club. It was okay but not great that night. The next day my mother called and told me that my aunt Charlotte had been found dead the day before but hadn’t told me because she didn’t want to ruin St. Patrick’s Day for me. Donna and I wet to the carnival and to see The Libertine (great flick BTW) to take our minds off of it. Trying not to cry at a carnival isn’t fun. Another year my late brother called and asked for the above joke that I had told him when he was drying out for a week a month or two prior. Then last year I really wanted to go out & dragged someone who doesn’t drink with me. I got trashed (not in a good way) but at least I had fun singing Old Time Rock and Roll and Maroon 5 at karaoke. I went out alone this past Halloween and it sucked so tonight I’ll be at home drinking a modified White Russian and watching the (hopefully) laughably bad Did You Hear About the Morgans?. I might attend bingo first.

Right To The Fell’s Point

That year I was living in Bmore and we had all decided to go out for St. Patty’s Day. Of course we decided to pregame before. I didn’t have any money so I decided that I had to get as drunk as possible before we left since I couldn’t buy drinks at the bar. I got pretty wasted (in a good way though) and barely remember the bar. We went to Rodos and even though they were at capacity they let us in because we were regulars. After that we came home and drank some more. I remember drinking Natty Bohs and then making Jason eat a spoon of the icing I was eating which was really funny. BTW-Natty Bohs and icing don’t go well together.

The next day I was woken up by banging on the front door. There was a girl in bed next to me. I assumed it was Donna. At the door were 3 young guys who were yelling ‘Yo, let us in, it’s the plumbers”. I would later refer to them as the Yo Boy Plumbers. I let them in and 2 tall skinny guys and 1 tall fat guy entered. Our usual maintenance guy was an older short guy so that was unusual in itself. Two of our radiators had been broken for like a month and we kept calling and they had finally shown up. They kept telling me how it wasn’t even cold but we had been freezing our asses off. The thing was it was 9 or 10 in the morning and these guys were incredibly high. They kept hopping around and laughing and making jokes which is really annoying when you are hung over. They saw the table full of cups and bottles and were like “Late night, huh?” and said they hadn’t gone out. Then I took them to my sister’s bedroom and they fixed that radiator. After they left I took care of the dog and got ready. My sister woke up and yelled at me. It turns out that my friend Jen was the one in bed with me because she didn’t want to drive home drunk. Donna had been in her room the whole time they were working on the radiator and she had been sleeping with very little clothing under her sheet.

Weekend in Underland/Ireland

Posted by missemmamm on March 15, 2010

Unlike usual I actually did a few fun things earlier this month (03/05 & 03/06). I was originally gonna do one or more photo makeup tutorials but being completely inexperienced with that I found that I took the close pics at weird angles & bad lighting (thanks stupid bathroom) and I was in a hurry. So I’ve scrapped that in favor of making fashion & beauty polyvores.

Underland
I saw Time Burton’s Alice In Wonderland on opening day. I’d been anticipating it since I saw the trailer last summer and didn’t want it to get spoiled for me. I had already started receiving questions from ISs on ChaCha the night before because it opened at midnight in big cities. This is a hick town so I didn’t want to look to costumey. I thought that the film was fun and looked great. Some people seemed to be let down but I enjoyed it. I read a review that said they overdid it with the whole Eat Me, Drink Me thing but I’d always loved that part in the original so I dug it. The 3D was okay but probably unneeded.

Ireland
That night I had tickets to see Druid featuring the Three Irish Tenors at the State Theater. I had assumed it would be like the last time I saw it performed a few years ago. However instead of being a sedate classic show featuring 3 Serious Guys some of the members had left & more were added turning it into a Psuedo Boy Band. It was a very different show. They were a little cocky and the choreography was a little stiff but it was still a good time. Last time it was a more low key vibe and after the show I talked to all 3 guys and they volunteered to sign my playbill. This time they announced that they would be signing for people who bought their cd. I didn’t see myself listening to that very often so I just went up to the lead singer and told him that I had enjoyed the show both times I’d seen it.

China

Then on Saturday I went to a Chinese restaurant with my mother and brother. We had been trying to go for a month but all of those snowstorms kept happening and my brother lives right outside of town on a dangerous road. They had a nice selection of tasty sushi that day.

P.S. This post is also tagged and categorized under Radical Self Love because it takes RSL and well balls to go do things completely alone when you have to. Yeah, I’ve been doing that for years but it’s still a little awkward.

Bathroom of the Future

Posted by missemmamm on November 19, 2009

So I went to the dog track again last week (Wheeling Island) This wouldn’t usually be notable because I’ve been there at least a dozen times. Even if I don’t win I usually have fun. I’m not much for slots, I usually stick to the dog track. So between watching the dogs race, eating tasty food that’s bad for you, being carded all day (I look 17?) & being hit on by really old drunk gamblers, the thrill is pretty gone. I mean it’s fun but nothing new. But this day I was super amazed, despite getting sick on the way there. FYI: I do not recommend vomiting in a bathroom on a moving bus. They had this in the bathroom (at the track, not on the bus, xd).

The Amazing Dyson Airblade Hand Dryer

While I consider myself fairly intelligent some things easily amuse me. This is definitely one of them. It’s like it’s from the future and hygienic too! I’m not the only one who is amazed. A quick YouTube search turns up tons of videos on this but I still had to use my own. I’m still surprised that they had something like this as the place is sort of run down. Apparently they cost over a grand.
