Get The Hottest Swimsuit (as seen on Jennifer Love Hewitt & Anna Paquin)

Posted by missemmamm on July 24, 2010

Recently both Jennifer Love Hewitt and Anna Paquin appeared on the covers of People and Self in the cutest swimsuit. I had to know who made it. They are wearing pieces from Betsey Johnson’s Petal Pusher collection. I was delighted to find out about Betsey’s swim line. I was only familiar with her dresses prior to this. The collection comes in 2 colors and many different styles including Demi Bra Top, Banded and Sliding Halter Top, Tie Side Hipster Bottom, Skirted Hipster Bottom, Cheeky Peeky Bottom and a Short and Strapless Dress. I am so in love with this sweet and sexy look. The reason there are multiple sources for most styles is that not every store has every size in and you may prefer one shopping site over another. Just click on the polyvore to go find out where to buy these pieces.

OP Juniors Graphic Henley Tank-Walmart, Basic Editions Canvas Shoes-Kmart, Aviators with heavy mirror-Rue 21, Route 66 Shorts-Kmart-worn on 06/11/10

This is just a fun summer look. The title is from a cheesy 90s song that brings a smile to my face when I hear it, Return of the Mack. You can click the Pop-Out Player button below to hear it on my summer mix (It’s the 1st song). When I saw that Walmart had brought back the OP surf label that I always thought was fun in the 90s but couldn’t afford (don’t fret, there were cute knock offs) I had to get a couple of things. This tank top is so fun, flattering and comfortable. I also picked up the yellow graphic top and my friend Jen bought me the teal colorblock dress in the 2nd polyvore below for my birthday. Check out the 2nd polyvore for my top picks from the OP at Walmart line. I bought the shorts on sale last fall or winter. Of course I had to pair the look with some new (yes, they are back) 90s style bobos. Back in the day I had bobos in a ton of colors to match a bunch of my outfits. When my sis, her bf and I went shopping last month I had to snag these men’s aviators for myself from Rue 21. They make me smile because they’re silly looking. I’ve been wearing them a lot. The lenses are very dark so that’s a plus. It seems like often sunglasses I pick up for the style don’t work at all. Please go HYPE my look if you are on LOOKBOOK.

Lusts N Musts Summer 2010

Lusts N Musts Summer 2010Fashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

Lusts N Musts Summer 2010 by MissEmmaMM featuring Forever21 clothing

These are the things that I am loving this summer. As you can see some of them were popular in the fashion world a year or 2 before and as mentioned in The Devil Wears Prada they are just now trickling down to us regular folks. I’m getting back into my more daring mode after feeling like I’ve been losing my spark in graphic tees and jeans.

Some of these things are 90s revivals. I was ambivalent when 80s and 90s fashion started to make a come back a year or so ago. I finally knew how adults felt when, as Junior High students, we decided to try out the 70s styles for fun. Back then most people felt that if they were around for a trend the first time then it was off limits this time. So at first I hated that everyone had on leggings and what not. Then I realized that I could rewear everything that I loved and try to get the stuff that I flunked at right this time.

Harem/Hammer/Parachute/Genie Pants

When I first heard these were making a comeback I just laughed. Then I started seeing a bunch of cool bloggers try them out and they were working. They seem to ignore the elephant in the room though. We do know these are Hammer pants, right? Yes, I did own Hammer pants in the 90s. I didn’t want them but it was like a requirement. I only wore then at home. They were rayon and had those 90s prints on them. Every time I see a pair in a thrift store I flinch and giggle. I can still do the Hammer dance. Knowing all of this I want a pair. I want a pair in black cotton. To embrace the full ridiculousness of the trend I plan on getting a pair with the front open to hint at the genie style.

Slouch Dresses
I recently bought one of these on a whim. I fell totally in love with in. I didn’t think it would work on someone who isn’t skinny but I was wrong. Both the dressy and casual styles are fantastic. If I see a cotton one that might flatter me then I may pick it up but I’m set for the dressy one.

Boho/Batik Dresses
These have been around forever. I never really dug them before. For some reason I’ve been eyeing them lately though. Unfortunately I keep seeing them for sale on Gilt.com and similar sites but the style I like is always sold out. If I can find a style that I like and find flattering I will be rocking it on the cooler days and evenings this summer.

Crop Tops
“Yeah, it’s under your tutelage she’s exploring the challenging world of bare midriffs.”-Clueless

I will not be wearing a crop top. However if you are in shape or slim and have a waist I think you should. I did wear them in that really lame ‘my crop top meets the top of my shorts way’ when I was 11. I don’t recommend this. If I were styling someone I would put them in a pair of high waisted skinny jeans or pants with just an inch or two of skin between the top of the pant and the tee.

from left: velour romper (also had it in black) with floral mood ring necklace, plaid romper, my sister in a crop top and fanny pack (oh yes)-Circa 1997

I lived in rompers when I was in junior high. I used to opt for the cotton ones with full legs because they were flattering. The rayon rompers are often unflattering because they lack structure. I recently snagged a Miley Cyrus and Max Azria romper on sale at Walmart for $6. I initially passed on even trying them on when they were close to $20. On sale though I’m willing to experiment. I haven’t found any structured rompers that work for me yet but I have no waist and smaller hips so that’s probably to be expected. This is a style you will probably want to try on in the store. FYI: Not everyone is so thrilled about this one. I mentioned this to my lil sis and she said “I stopped feeling sympathy when I heard the word romper”.

Gladiator Heels

These were pretty popular a couple of years ago. I was so not into them. Now I have my eyes on the ones that are full of studs and buckles. I’m not positive what I will be wearing these with when I pick up a pair. I just know they are necessary. I still don’t like the sandal version.

Ruched Skirts
I’ve been seeing a lot of these around lately and they really draw the eye because it’s not something you see every day.

Bodycon/Bandage Dresses
I think that these are fantastic. If I was a person with money I would opt for one from Herve Leger. I lucked out while I was shopping a sale at Rue 21 recently and found a kick ass bodycon skirt so I’m good.

Black V-Neck Dress
You probably know this as the Carrie dress but in white. I’ve tried to find one in stores but have had no luck so I guess I’ll have to pick one up online. This disappoints me because with something like this it’s about the fit.

Mr. Hyde’s Nasty Fall Tank-Geagua Lake, Mossimo Print Tank-Target, American Apparel Slit Leggings-Gilt, Fashion Bug Metal Accent Wedges-thrifted, Joe Boxer Balconette Bra-Kmart

This is what I wore on Memorial Day. My sis, her boyfriend and I went shopping, then had a cookout with my folks, then watched Party Down that night.

I really wanted to wear these new leggings from American Apparel. They are so kick ass. Just like the dress I wore on my Bday I bought these from Gilt.com I had seen American Apparel stuff for years and there were things I wanted but I’m cheap so I never could bring myself to buy any of it. These were half of the original AA price. I had seen similar leggings on Forever21.com when writing this article last fall but I’ve never ordered from there and was worried about fit. I love these. eBay’s Fashion Vault also had them on sale for the same price last week in 2 other colors. I waited a day because I wasn’t sure if I wanted one or both and when I checked the next day they were sold out in my size. I should have known “Always jump on a sale”.

Recently I was visiting my mom’s and found this tank top I bought when I was like 12 (we’re pack rats). My parents used to take us to tons of amusement parks when we were kids, which was awesome. We got to visit Geauga Lake for 2 or 3 summers before they changed over to a Six Flags. It was still fun as Six Flags but not as fun. Now it’s just a water park.

My sister and I had to ride this crazy ride, Mr. Hyde’s Nasty Fall. We had to wait around because they were servicing it. It turns out that it broke down all of the time. We sure were risk takers. It’s not listed in that history but a few years ago my sister and I visited the Maryland Six Flags and rode it there. So I guess it was passed around a bit. That time they hadn’t cleaned it and had a major BO smell, ugh. It was was too big and a men’s tank but I thought the graphic was cool and it was about $6 so I bought it. Then I never wore it until now.

The bra I’m wearing underneath is Joe Boxer from Kmart. I wore it in my Springy Photo Set. I highly recommend these bras. They are so flattering and comfy. I converted my sister to them when she visited.

P.S. I used to wear these shoes clubbing in Bmore and they are transvestite club kid approved.

If you are on LookBook please go hype this outfit.

Style File: SATC 2 on My Bday

Posted by missemmamm on June 3, 2010

I wore this outfit when Donna and I went to see Sex and the City 2 on my birthday, last Sunday (May 30th). The dress is by Isabel Lu. I bought it from Gilt.com. Gilt is a members only invitation site that sells designer clothes at awesome prices. This dress was about 70% off of the regular price. You can sign up here. My sister is wearing my Sex and the City shirt that I bought in 2008 when the first film was released. It was from Sarah Jessica Parker’s now defunct Bitten line. It was sold at Steve & Barry’s. I remember when I saw the line’s debut on Oprah. The problem was the clothes weren’t that interesting. I guess I was hoping for Carrie style but that’s actually Patricia Field’s style not SJP’s. I thought the movie was really fun. Go here to hype my look if you are on LookBook.

Style File: Mellie

Posted by missemmamm on June 2, 2010

A few days before my birthday my mother took me to Applebee’s to celebrate. Unfortunately we had a really rude waitress and couldn’t really enjoy ourselves. I don’t like to complain but I don’t think it was a big deal that we needed more/different dressing. She never offered to refill my drink and threw our bill at us before we were done eating. I had the chicken won ton tacos and a half size oriental chicken salad.

I wore this Free People dress. I’m a seller on eBay. Usually I just flip movie and TV wardrobe. I don’t buy the stuff to wear myself. Most of the actresses are tiny so I couldn’t do that if I wanted to. When I got this dress worn by Mellie on Dollhouse (Season 1 Episode 5: True Believe) I had to wear it. She’s not a skinny minnie like the other girls on the show. If you’re on LookBook please go hype my style on there.

Where To Buy Sex and the City 2 Fashions

Posted by missemmamm on May 27, 2010

I had originally planned to make this Sex and the City Week here but I was super busy on Tuesday and yesterday my server was down. Hopefully I can post from now through Saturday though. To see an item in a polyvore either click through the polyvore or directly on the link underneath the photo.

Currently ideeli is having a one day sale with fashions inspired by the new film including looks by Betsey Johnson. Jump on this sale because many items are already sold out. They have looks for all of the main characters. I’m really digging these Charlotte style dresses and Carrie style shoes.

ideeli is a members only site that offers designers clothes at a great price for a limited time.

You can buy some of the actual designer dress styles Carrie wears in Sex and the City 2, if you have the dough, from Neiman Marcus or Singer 22. They are from the Halston Heritage Collection. Some of Miranda’s looks also look similar to those from this collection. You can also rent the white or pink dress from Rent the Runway for only $50. The Halston Heritage Collection is located here on their site.

The Good Guys

Last night the new Fox show The Good Guys premiered. The Good Guys is a 1 hour police comedy with a 70s feel starring Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford. Hanks is the young by the book cop and Whitford is the washed up alcoholic cop. I must say that I totally dug it. The commercials looked really fun and I’ve been a fan of Colin Hanks for years but just because I like one of the stars doesn’t mean I’ll always end up continuing to watch the show. I was also worried because a pilot is sometimes the best episode of a series. They showed previews for the upcoming episodes though and they looked pretty awesome. Of course this show already has something stacked against it: It’s starting in the summer. This was a “Preview Event”. The show will beginning airing in it’s regular time spot Mondays at 9PM ET on May 31st with a reairing of the Pilot. Check out the Official site. They have goodies like wallpapers and a screensaver on there. This doesn’t really have to do with the show but I think Hanks is getting cuter. I think he’s gonna be like smokin hot in 5 years.

Party Down
If you haven’t seen Party Down yet you don’t know the level of hilarity you’re missing. It’s a comedy about struggling actors who moonlight as caterers. Ken Marino stars. To find out more read this unconventional DVD talk review of the show. If you have Netflix you must stream seasons one and two immediately. New episodes from season 2 are actually added to Netflix on Fridays before the show even airs on Starz. The 1st season was also recently released on DVD.

Last Saturday was the season finale of SNL hosted by Alec Baldwin. I love Baldwin but the show was uneven. My favorite sketches was the Timecrowave faux infomercial.

I, like most people, loved the recent Betty White episode. She was truly hilarious.

The Office
Between Michael being a mistress and Dwight being a manwhore, last week’s episode of The Office The Chump was pretty stellar.

Ghost Whisperer
Jennifer Love Hewitt’s show was recently canceled after 5 seasons. The last episode airs this Friday. There are rumors that it will get picked up by ABC but they say that about a lot of shows and it rarely happens. The show has been resuscitated and revamped a bunch of times already. I’m a fan but I haven’t been a fan of all of the changes. I like Jamie Kennedy but I hate his character. I thought Jay Mohr was awesome but then he got Gary, Unmarried and they replaced him with Kennedy. When they brought Melinda’s husband back in another body that was a little to far out for me but ultimately very touching. I hated what they did for the current season though which was speed up time. I hate when children become the focus of the show which is what happened. So even though I loved being able to watch JLH in something every week it kind of needed to go (or be changed once again). Hey at least I’ll stop buying vintage dresses off of eBay on Friday nights.
P.S. Jamie Kennedy is the only celebrity to ever block me on twitter because I said they should get rid of him. I also said his head was too fat but he didn’t block me then. xd

You should go watch these Boba Fetish videos starring Chris Gore, very funny.

You can watch all 10 episodes of Stuart Townsends’ very cool, short lived, supernatural drama Night Stalker on IMDB right now.

I haven’t seen a lot of new stuff added to Netflix lately so I went through and just picked some out.

Before Robert Downey Jr. was known as Iron Man, before he was showcasing his talent in awesome, offbeat roles he was cranking out romcoms that I, and I’m sure other, little girl’s loved: Heart and Souls, Only You, Chances Are.

Robin Hood opened last weekend. My Ridley Scott picks are: G.I. Jane and Blade Runner.

Check out some of the flicks I mentioned in My Top Movies of 09 post: Spread, Spring Breakdown, Streets of Blood, Powder Blue.

Other Good Flicks: Sherry Baby, Pandorum, The Edge of Love.

YouTube Preview Image
An amazing level of awesomeness. I can’t believe we have to wait until September to see it.

YouTube Preview Image
This looks like a really weird black comedy. In fact when I stumbled across the site looking for something else I thought it was a joke. The poster looks like something out of an SNL sketch.

YouTube Preview Image
I get a really cool Thirteenth Floor vibe from this.

Jonah Hex
YouTube Preview Image
Pretty cool. Plus I’m a big Megan Fox fan.

Still loves Hal Sparks. If you don’t follow him on twitter. You are missing stuff like this.

Amazon’s $5 MP3 albums aren’t as impressive this month. Check out the full list here. My picks are Volume Two-She & Him, Greatests Hits-Blondie,& This Is War-30 Seconds to Mars.

Christina Aguilera
I really wasn’t sure if I liked Aguilera’s new song, Not Myself Tonight, when I watched the video a couple of times because I was focused on the video. Then I heard it in the car one day and caught myself singing along.

To all of the people who saying she is copying Lady Gaga or whoever: They aren’t the only one people to wear bright colors and crawl on the floor. (Tongue in cheek: Obviously she’s not copying me.) Just making a point that there are tons of people out there who try new things. It’s not a big deal. And FYI Xtina “reinvents” herself every album. Either like her or don’t.

Beauty is Truth

Edited by Thom Wong

Beauty is truth and truth is beauty, but what happens when fashion enters the mix? Several of this week’s links tackle this thorny question with gusto, teasing out the various layers of meaning behind the term beauty and what it means to feel or be beautiful. Ethics and the material nature of style emerged as another dominant theme. The Laundry Narrative wonders if she can enjoy fashion blogging without dealing with the BIG ISSUES. Then there are longer form posts where I felt the writers stretched their narrative legs, some new voices in the game who could use your attention, and, since this is still about fashion, some lovely outfit pics of girls on bikes. Finally I’ve included the only two men who bothered to post (seriously, what up men). And meggings – nooooo!!!!!
